5 Spectacular Things to do Around Cannes (With Photos)

What to do around Cannes to escape the frenzy of the Festival and the Croisette? Here are 5 things to do in Cannes and in the Cannes region in France.

A tour in the Provencal countryside

When Cannes is in focus by most visitors, the surroundings are also worth visiting. Many travel agencies like Tour Azur, specialized in transport, offer to guide you across the country. This is the opportunity to discover the narrow streets of the medieval perched village of Gourdon, or visit the Perfumeries of Grasse, the world capital of the perfume industry, located just twenty kilometers from Cannes. Return before the night, if only to share the stories of our trip with friends who have preferred to spend their day on a sidewalk to watch for the arrival of a possible star astray in Cannes.

A wine tasting among the Cistercians

After a 15-minute crossing from Cannes, we set foot on the island of Saint-Honorat. The place is the property of the Cistercian monks who has maintain it for centuries, since it is one of the oldest monastic sites in the West. Witness the very beautiful monastery of Lérins, developed throughout the Middle Ages, between the eleventh and fifteenth century. The monks make us taste the fruit of their vineyard, 16 centuries old, which changes pleasantly from the bars of the Croisette.

With all these locations in mind, we can leave serenely at the Cannes Film Festival: if the atmosphere gets stifling we know where to go to escape. You do not always need a screen to get your eyes full.

A trip to Antibes in the footsteps of Picasso

Only 15 kilometers from Cannes, direction Nice is the little town Antibes, here you can visit the beautiful museum dedicated to Pablo Picasso.

Taste, on the one hand, tourta de blea nissarda (pie with sweet Swiss beets) at Veziano, one of the oldest bakeries in the city. All while admiring 50-meter yachts on the “Billionaires’ Wharf”. In addition, until May 21 are held the Floralies in Antibes. The opportunity to enjoy the charms of the city, full of fragrance and colors thanks to the 45,000 flowers planted for the occasion.

A bath in Saint-Tropez

If the Cannes beaches are crowded, why not go enjoy a day of those of Saint-Tropez? The city is about forty kilometers, and you can come by train, or many shuttles make the trip. This is an opportunity to go to enjoy this port, mythical since Brigitte Bardot, while the usual tourists left, precisely, to the Festival. A beach day, interspersed with a tapas break at the bar El Mas, gives the opportunity to rest away from the bustle of the Croisette. And if we’re there for May 23, we’ll be playing at the second musical spring concert in Saint-Tropez to listen to Alexandre Kniazev (cello) and Plamena Mangova (piano), thus adding a beautiful musical moment to this period devoted to the 7th art.

Lunch at Saint-Paul-de-Vence

Second most visited village in France, an excursion to Saint-Paul-de-Vence is essential. Art lovers are obviously thinking of going on a gastronomic pilgrimage to La Colombe d’Or where Picasso, Chagall and Miro had their table. Others prefer the other gastronomic restaurants around, Le Blanc Manger, Bacchanales or Ambroisie, to make a culinary stop. We continue the day with a visit to the Collegiate Church of the Conversion-de-Saint-Paul, where are preserved beautiful examples of French Baroque.
